Olympic Dam Village Master Plan

Start Project
Overview

BHP Olympic Dam is Australia’s largest fly-in-fly-out village with 3,800 rooms, located 400km north of Adelaide. SPH worked closely with BHP and the site management team to develop a proposal to modernise the village’s central facilities; we proposed a town square and café strip style main street that established a destination for residents. This included three new restaurants (to replace the dry mess), a tavern, outdoor cinema, pop up bar and food offerings, recreation centre, conference centre and retail offerings. The town square was linked to the accommodation and airstrip with new circulation and garden avenues. The result changed the village from a traditional modular mass camp to a genuine rural town with a thriving high street.
