Overview

SPH architecture + interiors worked with owners and sisters Sam and Angela of Keiki Early Learning centres to develop an old warehouse space into an early learning centre in Edgewater. The building contains 5 large playrooms with direct access to the outdoors The design also features a purpose designed art room, sensory rooms and dining room.

The exterior has had a large portion of the existing roof sheeting removed to create a purpose-built natural outdoor space designed for play-based learning, within secure and safe surrounds.

Enhancing the connection to nature was a key concept when designing the internal and external spaces also increasing the natural light into the existing building by adding additional glazing.

SPH are creating an uplifting environment for children, educators and staff.

The exterior play space has been designed with a large amount of shaded/covered veranda space, which allows for outdoor play experiences all year round.

The inside interior colour pallet draws inspiration from nature and uses natural elements, warm colour pallet of light timbers, coastal textures and a small amount of black, featured in the window frames and cabinet handles for added contrast. Featured timber-screens were incorporated throughout the design, located between art room and play space the timber screen also serves a functional purpose, allowing visual connection between rooms for staff.
