Overview

The MHEC is adjacent the hospital’s emergency department and is a secure, low stimulus, short stay mental HEALTH unit with a fitout that minimizes risk to both staff and patients.  It has been designed for up to 72hour stay with 6 observation beds and 2 sleeper chair bays along with communal spaces, consulting rooms and staff facilities.  To enable the design and construction of the MHEC, the Emergency Department Administration Team were relocated within the hospital.  The facility was opened by Hon. Roger Cook Deputy Premier, Minister for Health; Mental Health on October 16th 2019.
